I was raised to believe that a penny saved was indeed a penny earned, so I did just that. I collected loose pennies in a gallon jug. When the jug was over
three-quarters full, I decided it was time to transfer them to my savings account. Do you have any idea how heavy a gallon of pennies is?
I toted my pennies down to the bank (reminiscent of those old TV bank commercials of the little boy with his piggy bank opening his first savings account) and was told that the bank didn't accept any unrolled coins. The teller was more than happy to provide me with all the paper penny rollers I might ever need, though.
As I turned to waddle away with my jug and fistful of paper rollers, she called out,
"Don't forget to write your name and account number on each
roll!"
When I got home, I looked at all those pennies. I thought to myself,
"There has got to be an easier way ...
